Longitudinal and Torsional Phaco Energy Parameters
1S.B. Bolu İzzet Baysal Devlet Hastanesi, Göz Hastalıkları Servisi, Bolu, Uzm. Dr.2Ankara Mesa Hastanesi Göz Hastalıkları Servisi, Ankara, Uzm. Dr. Purpose: Comparison of longitudinal and torsional energies regarding on-time parameters.
Materials and Methods: This prospective study comprised 75 eyes of 75 patients, that is grouped into three. In the first group, longitudinal and torsional on-time was fixed, in the second group longituinal and torsional on-time was in ascending order, and in the third group, longitudinal on-time was descending, while torsional on-time was in ascending order. Cumulative dissipated energy (CDE), phaco and torsional time, used at foot position 3, aspiration time were accepted as measures of efficiency and compared.
Results: As for the comparison of cumulative dissipated energy, statistically lowest energy was measured in the third group. For the comparison of phaco time, torsional time and aspiration time again lowest measures were gained in the third group.
Conclusion: Lowest dissipated energy with highest efficiency was gained in the group that is longitudinal energy was descending and torsional energy was in ascending order, so torsional method is more effective and more preferable method in phacoemulsification surgery. Keywords : Torsional phaco, longitudinal phaco, cumulative dissipated energy
