4Afyon Kocatepe Üniversitesi Göz Hastalıkları A.D., Afyon, Dr. Purpose: To compare the intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements obtained using Pascal Dynamic Contour Tonometer (PDCT), Goldmann Applanation tonometer (GAT), Non-contact tonometer (NCT) and Tono-pen and to correlate these with central corneal thickness (CCT) in eyes of normal healthy subjects.
Materials and Methods: IOP was measured with PDCT (SMT Swiss Microtechnology, Switzerland), GAT (Nikon, Japan), NCT ( Topcon CT- 80, Japan) and tono-pen (Tono-Pen XL, Medtronic Solan, USA) in random order in 106 eyes with normal corneas. CCT was measured using an ultrasonic pachymeter (Quentel Medical Clermont-Fernand, France). All measurements were repeated three times for each instrument. Mean values were evaluated with ANOVA and Pearson correlation analysis.
Results: Mean IOP was 16.1±2.7 mmHg, 14.0±2.7, 14.3±3.0 and 14.5±3.0 mmHg for PDCT, GAT, NCT and tono-pen, respectively. IOP values measured by PDCT were higher 2.0±2.5 mmHg, 1.7±2.7 mmHg, 1.5±2.4 mmHg than GAT, NCT and tono-pen values, respectively, and differences were found statistically significant (p<0.01, ANOVA). Mean CCT was 530.9±33 micrometer. PDCT, GAT and NCT values correlated with CCT (p<0.05, Pearson correlation analysis). Tono-pen showed no significant correlation with CCT (p>0.05, Pearson correlation analysis ).
Conclusions: We detected that IOP values measured by PDCT were higher than other methods. PDCT, GAT and NCT, except tono-pen, are affected by CCT in eyes with normal corneas of healthy subjects.
