Materials and Methods: In this prospective randomized clinical study 20 eyes of 10 glaucoma patients were operated by deep sclerectomy technique bilaterally with implantation of SK Gel to one and T-Flux to the other eye. After the operations IOP (intraocular pressure) reduction and visual acuities of patients in two implant groups were compared statistically.
Results: 6 months after the operations, in both implant groups percentage of eyes in which IOP was less than 21 mmHg without medication (complete success ) was 90% and percentage of eyes in which IOP was less than 21 mmHg with medication (qualified success) was 100%. There was no statistically significant difference between preoperative and postoperative mean visual acuities and between mean preoperative IOPs (SK Gel 23.7±2.31 mmHg, T-Flux 23.3±2.26 mmHg) in both implant groups (p>0.05). Postoperatively mean IOPs in both implant groups (SKGel 14±1.15 mmHg,T-Flux 12.1±1.52 mmHg) were statistically lower than preoperative levels (p=0.005). Mean IOP of T-Flux group was statistically lower than SK Gel group (p=0.01). Amount of mean IOP decrease in T-Flux group was statistically higher than SK Gel group(p=0.045).
Conclusions: With both implants effective decrease in IOP were achieved in early postoperative term. When implant groups were compared, T-flux was a little bit better. But in order to decide more accurately about the usefulness of these kinds of implants, studies with longer follow up time and with more patients should be done.
