Purpose: To evaluate the intraocular pressure (IOP) lowering effect, diurnal variation and adverse effects of Latanoprost %0.005 and Timolol Maleat %0.5 fixed combination (LTFC) in patients with Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma (POAG)
Materials and Methods: In this prospective study,112 eyes of 56 patients with the diagnosis of POAG who haven't received any glaucoma medication were included. This group was treated with LTFC for 6 months.
Results: Pre and 6th month IOP was; 23.70±1.70 mmHg and 14.42±1.78 mmHg respectively. After 6 months of treatment the reduction of IOP was statistically significant. Compared with pre-treatment, at 3rd month diurnal variation was significantly lower (p<0.01). Systemic adverse effect was not observed in any patients. Mild and moderate conjunktival hyperemia was observed in 17 eyes, ocular irritation was observed in 20 eyes, ocular pain observed in 2 eyes, hypertrichosis observed in 8 eyes.
Conclusion: In patients with POAG LTFC is effective and safe treatment for reducing IOP.
